O My Aiken Lowry a literary cabaret
Introduction & Biography
In which the cabaret is placed in time and space during an important message from Captain Emir Kusturica. An introduction to the performance is then followed by a biographical sketch of Malcolm Lowry, illustrated by music, video clips and images, sporadically interrupted by Syrah Pompador as "The Imp of the Perverse." Topics include: Lowry's boyhood and education, travels, literary concerns and techniques, alcoholism and compulsions, and life in a squatter's shack with his wife Margerie. Lowry's connections to Savannah during this period are shown. This section concludes with a video of Peter Stampfel's ukulele setting of Lowry's "Epitaph" composed for this performance.
