a spectacular missile

(The Fritz X)

The Germans are using a new type rocket glider bomb against the Allied vessels now engaged in the invasion of the Italian mainland, launching it at high altitude from what is believed to be a new, well-armed Dornier plane.  I have seen the bomb in operation and it is a spectacular missile.

Launched from the new aluminum-painted bombers, it flies briefly under the plane until directly over the target, then dips and shoots flaming to earth.  Scores of American sailors first saw it in the Gulf of Salerno and thought the Nazis had adopted Japanese suicide bombing, crash diving at our ships.
